Gayatri Devi: People's princess

Gayatri Devi, the elegant former princess of Cooch Behar became the Maharani of Jaipur and was once considered among the world's most beautiful woman, died at 90 on Wednesday, July 29, 2009.

Gayatri Devi's demise comes a day after the passing away of actress Leela Naidu, both of whom were named by ‘Vogue’ as amongst the 10 most beautiful women in the world. (BCCL)

After developing gastric problems in London, Gayatri Devi (C)was admitted to a hospital there. Maharani uttered her last wish which was to return to India and was flown in an air ambulance to Jaipur.
