B'wood's expensive films

Since our B'wood is not smitten by reccession, here's a look at some of the B'wood films whose budgets have touched the sky.



Hrithik Roshan's home production 'Kites' has been made with a budget of Rs 60 crore and this is the most expensive film from the Roshan banner. The film also has Latin beauty Barbara Mori and Kangna Ranaut. The movie has some intimate moments of Hrithik and Barabara and the movie is the much awaited flick.
The SRK-Kajol starrer My Name is Khan has been picked up by Fox for a whopping Rs. 100 crores, more than double the budget of the film. It is one of the most awaited films of 2010 as it marks the return of screen's golden couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
Shanker's 'Endhiran', that has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan romancing southern superstar Rajinikanth is being made at a budget of Rs 165 crore. the buzz is that the cost of one particular song in the film had reached Rs 30 crore. The film is still under production and is set for 2010.
Recently released Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta starrer underwater thriller 'Blue' was made at a whopping Rs 126 crores. The film was shot extensivley in the Bahamas and the movie had Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue who was paid $1 million. But, again the movie failed to create any buzz at the box office.
Aamir Khan and Asin starrer 'Ghajini' may have been a remake of a Tamil film, but that didn't stop distributors from picking it up for Rs. 90 crores. Before the news of 'My Name Is Khan' came about, 'Ghajini' was the highest bid ever in Bollywood. May be Aamir's six packs were the hot seller...
Ashutosh Gowariker's gargantuan epic based on Mughal emperor Akbar's life and his relationship with his Hindu wife Jodhaabai costed about 40 crores. Elaborate sets, huge war scenes and Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai as stars push the budget upwards of the film 'Jodha Akbar'
Year 2008 saw the release of Abihshek Bachchan and Priyanka starrer 'Drona' made at a lavish budget of Rs 79 crore. Reports are that director Goldie Behl spent Rs 22 crore for an imaginary den for the villain. But despite all this the film was a damp squib at the box office.
Harry Baweja's launch vehicle for his son Harman, was packed with blue sets, special effects and a robots. We saw him dance, we saw him trying to act and we saw Priyanka Chopra in red hair. The film promised to be a sci-fi extravaganza but turned out to be a dud at the BO. But it cost daddy Harry a whopping 80 crores.
A comedy flick starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif was a film about a happy go lucky sardar. The movie was shot entirely at foreign locations, with some reverts to India. The hit jodi of Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar spelled magic at the box office. Snoop Dogg also sung a song for the film, which costed about 50 crores.
Farah Khan's comical and over-the-top take on Bollywood was a colorful extravaganza filled with technical mastery. With SRK and Deepika in lead roles, the film was famous for its songs and its reincarnation theme. It cost about 45 crores.
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor's launchpad 'Saawariya' directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was made at Rs 40 crore. Though the film bombed at the box office, but the actors in the lead role cashed on all the popularity through the film.
Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Priety Zinta made the whole movie grand success. Shot in Manhattan in New York, 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' by Karan Johar had a hude budget to about 44 crores. Though the film did not much on the lines of a story, it did have a good music score.
Karan Johar's multi star studded film had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. The film was shot in the US and UK, apart from India. The filma had huge sets that made it as one of the most expensive films of its time. It had a budget of about 42 crores.
'Devdas' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit was the most expensive Bollywood film ever produced, with a reported budget of Rs 53 crore. The film was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The Anil Sharma film, 'Hero: The Love Story Of A Spy' had Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, and Sunny Deol, the most expensive film of its time. It did quite a decent amount of business and did cost about 55 crores.
