B'wood's top 10 'Political' movies

Politics and the state of affairs have always inspired B'wood filmmakers. From Agey Barho in the 40s to Rajneeti, here's a look at top ten B'wood movies that play around politics.

Hopes are high for Prakash Jha's multi-starrer 'Rajneeti'. Jha, known for his realistic movies, is sure to do justice to the subject.
Three superstars from the Bachchan family – Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya came together on screen for Ram Gopal Verma's 'Sarkar Raj'. In spite of a superb star cast, the film bombed at the box office and the lead pair had hardly any chemistry!
Considered a cult movie, Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva' had a fabulous star cast and an intriguing storyline. The film tells the stories of three young men from completely different strata of society and one fateful incident on Kolkata's Howrah Bridge which changes their lives forever.
Touted as a story designed around the media world, RGV's 'Rann' is a cliched corrupt politician's chronicle set on the backdrop of the broadcasting business. Rann starts off impressively but fizzles towards the end!
The movie, 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' revolves around three lives caught in the desired and duty of youth. It's set in the back-drop of the Naxalite movement and the Emergency.
When two talented people like Girish Karnand and Shyam Benegal come together, you expect nothing else but sheer brilliance and that's what you get in 'Kalyug', a modern adaptation of the Mahabharata.
Anurag Kashyap's 'Gulaal' talks about politics in Rajputana state of Rajasthan. A taut script and faultless portrayal of characters made the movie a hit among the multiplex crowd.
For the first time B'wood glam doll Raveena Tandon was seen in a non-glamorous avatar who wooed the audience with her power-packed performance in Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Satta'.
Considered a cult movie, Gulzar's 'Aandhi' was beautifully sketched right from Suchitra Sen's Aartis Devi to Sanjeev Kumar's JK! The movie stirred a controversy as it was widely believed that is was based on then, PM Indira Gandhi's life.
Directed by Eeshwar Nivas 'Shool' portrays the politician-criminal nexus and the criminalization of politics in Bihar, and its effect on the life of an honest police officer. The film, which stars Manoj Bajpai, won three awards.
