B'wood's poster controversies

These days anything can spin off a controversy and who would have thought that mere posters of movies could spin off controversies, but they do. Let's have a look at the posters who have been controversial... What Kareena did in 'Kurbaan' was done by Neha Dhupia in 'Julie' way back in 2004. The actress had to face the wrath of Hindu activists because of her bold scenes on the poster. Neha also had her bare back on the film's poster.

Recently Karan Johar's film 'Kurbaan' was mired in controversy with Shiv Sena objecting to the movie's poster that flaunts actress Kareena Kapoor's bare back. Shiv Sainiks tore down posters and they then headed towards the actress' house to offer her a sari to cover herself.

'Girlfriend' had genuinely a different love triangle, the lesbianism angle, but that didn't go down well with RSS that led to protests. The protestors were so irate that they tore down almost all the posters and the banners.

In Hollywood homosexuality or bi-sexuality may not be a big deal, but in Bollywood it is. The same happened with Deepa Mehta's film 'Fire' that focused on a lesbian relationship. Every theater which had these posters were vandalised by the Right-wing activists.

The filmmakers Sunil and Praful found themselves at the receiving end of some threatening calls because the catholic community hat was offended with the poster of the film 'Runway' that showed its actor with a gun in one hand and the cross on the other!

In this case it was a problem of plagiarism. When the movie poster of 'Heroes' was released it immediately reminded everyone of 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. Samir Karnik, the director of 'Heroes' did not deny the resemblance.
