2008 wasn't perhaps the best year when it comes to storytelling but it still had at least a few films that managed to work well with the audience. We bring you some of the hottest films that Bollywood saw in the year gone by.
Ghajini: Aamir Khan was determined to go up. A year's hard work got him a body with the requisite eight packs firmly in place. But we don't like the movie just because we'd like to slice up Aamir and have him for dessert...we like it for the gripping story, the fantastic action and the amazing acting by Asin and Aamir. |
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: Shah Rukh Khan in a geeky hairstyle and moustache. So we were willing to overlook the fact that King Khan’s heroines are getting younger and taller with every passing year. Moreover, earnest performances and the humor that permeates the film make up for a story that lacks conviction.

A Wednesday: The movie clearly stands as most topical movie of 2008. When half a dozen movies with terrorism as its theme were released in the year gone by, the only movie which actually spoke from the point of view of a common man was 'A Wednesday'. It simply raised the voice of a common man and asked simple questions. The movie sticks to its plot and never looses focus.

Rock On: It was crazy, fun and foot tapping music. We hand it to Farhan Akhtar, the man can work behind the camera and in front of it too. |
Jodhaa Akbar: It was conceived on a large scale, both on screen as well as on the clock. But we loved the imagination and the courage that it took to go the historical way. The chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai was just the cherry on top. |
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na: It took Imran Khan and Genelia D'souza to make us long for the halcyon days of college. The formulaic climax of an airport scene aside, everything else found an echo in us, right from 'Pappu' to the funeral for a cat. (Pic Courtesy: Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)

Singh is Kinng: It was one of those films that worked as an instant coffee. It was Akshay’s histrionics as a 'Singh' that was matched by the photogenic quality of leggie beauty Katrina Kaif that did the trick. |
Bachna Ae Haseeno: Despite his three sexy co-stars, Miniisha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone in the movie,Ranbir Kapoor was the show stealer. Not only did it script an interesting and refreshing story, it also had some great performances and not to forget the sizzling chemistry between the love birds, Deepika and Ranbir rocked the screen.

Yuvvraaj: Yet another film of 2008 that bored the audience. Bad year for Salman Khan as it had a dull storyline. The film had some good songs, but even A.R. Rahman's music could not save the movie. |
Dostana: This movie should get credit for making the 'gay' word almost cool and even a sort of fashion statement to flaunt. Yes, the film did manage to get an alternate relationship out of a closet! The film was fun for most of it's duration, in fact almost riotous in the first half. Priyanka's golden swimming costumes, John's yellow trunk and Abhishek's naughty antics made sure that there was no dull moment in the movie. |
Golmaal Returns: The film is a sequel to the 2006 film, Golmaal with Ajay Devgan, Tusshar Kapoor and Arshad Warsi reprising their roles while Kareena Kapoor, Anjana Sukhani, Amrita Arora and Celina Jaitley as new additions. The film released on October 29, 2008 and earned a total amount of 51 crore rupees. |
Kidnap: Sanjay Dutt plays a father whose daughter is kidnapped. The film follows his struggle to get her back. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Minissha Lamba and Vidya Malvade. The film is directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. Though the film was not a box office hit but yes, Minissha's bikini act in the movie was sure a hit. |
Fashion: Madhur Bhandarkar makes a promise and always delivers as per expectations. This film worked as a revival of Priyanka Chopra's fortunes that were dwindling after 4 successive box office flops. Also, audience whole heartedly welcomed a stunner called Mugdha Godse. |
Race: The movie had the MOST number of twists ever. So much so that this 150 minutes tale had at least half a dozen twists which. It was one masala' entertainer which stayed on to be one of the biggest money spinner. |
Kismat Konnection: After replacing his favorite on-screen jodi, Shah Rukh and Juhi Chawla, Aziz Mirza got the pair of the young Shahid Kapoor and the not-so-young Vidya Balan. The Tips film opened to an above average response and how can we forget the hit soundtracks. |
Sarkar Raj: A much-hyped movie failed to live up to the excellence of its prequel and ended up as a flop of the year. Despite an average opening, the film managed to earn Rs. 33.96 Crores at the box office. |
U Me Aur Hum: This Devgan home production promised and delivered less. The directorial debut of Ajay Devgan got average opening despite the pairing of the real-life married, Ajay and Kajol. The film earned a mere below average rating at the box office. |
Tashan: Another Yash Raj shocker! Despite, heavy endorsements and massive promotions, this slightly different 'tashani' film failed to make a real impact at the box. |
