From ramp to reel

From Ash and Sush to Deepika...ramp models have time and again tried their luck in Bollywood and have been fairly successful also. Here are some of those who made their transition from the ramp to Bollywood: Mugdha Godse: started her career on ramp and turned many heads with her ravishing looks and stepped into B-town with 'Fashion'. The sexy lass has been appreciated for her acting skills in 'Jail' and 'All the Best' as well. Mugdha has many important projects in her kitty!

Sushmita Sen: Crowned Miss Universe in 1994, Sushmita became an actress with the movie, Dastak in 1996. But she rose to fame with the the movie Biwi No.1 and till now her biggest hit has been Main Hoon Na.

Deepika Padukone: Supermodel turned actress, Deepika made a successful Bollywood debut in 2007 with Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film went on to become the biggest hit of the year and so was born a star. (Pic: Maxim)

Neha Dhupia: Neha was crowned Miss India Universe in 2002 and competed at Miss Universe 2002, finishing in the top ten. She rose to popularity with her bold role in the film Julie which gave her the status of a sex symbol.

Tanushree Dutta: She won the Femina Miss India title in 2004 and debuted in B'wood in 2005. She worked on two films simultaneously Chocolate and Aashiq Banaya Apne.

Dia Mirza: Dia, Miss Asia Pacific for the year 2000 made her cinematic debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite R. Madhavan.

Yana Gupta: Before her career in Bollywood, she modeled for international clients like Calvin Klein and Victoria's Secret. Yana made her big screen debut in the movie Dum for the song 'Babuji' which made her famous for cameo item numbers.

Udita Goswami: The green-eyed actress started her career in modeling, then made her foray into B'wood. Her first film was Paap, but her next film Zeherbrought her fame.

Pooja Batra: Pooja took up modeling as a part-time job and she was best known for her Liril soap commercial. The first film she signed was Virasat in 1997, and since then she has worked in over 21 films.

Priyanka Chopra: Former Miss World 2000, Piggy Chops made her acting debut with the Tamil film Thamizhan. Two years later, she made her Bollywood debut with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and had her first commercial success with her second release Andaaz.

Lara Duta: Miss Universe 2000, Lara made her Hindi debut in 2003 with the film Andaaz which was a box office success and won her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. Since then she appeared in a number of films.

Eisha Koppikar: As a model, Eisha worked notably for L'Oreal, Rexona and Coca-Cola. She began her acting career with the Tamil film Kaadhal Kavithai and made her Hindi debut in Fiza in the year 2000.

Diana Hayden: She first came to attention when she represented India at the 1997 Miss World pageant and became a known face when she won the crown. Diana also started her acting career with a guest apperance in the movie Ab Bas.

Bipasha Basu: Bips won the Ford Godrej Cinthol contest and it was after that she started her acting career in Bollywood. She made her film debut in Abbas Mustan's Ajnabee and her first big commercial success was Vikram Bhatt's Raaz.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: After winning the Miss World contest, Ash made her movie debut in Tamil film, Iruvar but she had her first commercial success with the Tamil movie Jeans and came to the attention of Bollywood in the movie, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
